Why does the portal ask me for a six-digit code?
Two-step sign-in is on for your login or your business. Type the code from your authenticator app, or use a saved recovery code if you lost your phone.
A six-digit code means two-step sign-in protects your login. You get the code from an authenticator app on your phone. The code in the app keeps changing, so always type the one it shows now. There are two screens you might see: one that asks for the code when you sign in, and one that asks you to set up the app because your business requires it.
What you need
- Your phone with an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Authy or 1Password.
- Your recovery codes, if you no longer have the phone.
- About 2 minutes.
Steps
When you sign in
- Sign in with your email and password as usual.
- On the Two-factor authentication screen, open your authenticator app.
- Type the six digits it shows in Authentication code.
- Select Verify and continue.
When your business requires it and you have not set it up
- After you sign in, the Set up two-factor authentication page opens.
- Open your authenticator app and scan the code on the screen. If you cannot scan it, add an account by hand and type the Setup key.
- Type the six digits the app shows in 6-digit code.
- Select Verify and continue.
- When you see Two-factor authentication is on, write the recovery codes down somewhere safe. They are not shown again.
- Tick I have saved these codes. and select Continue.
Common problems
- If you lost your phone, select Lost your authenticator? Use a recovery code, type one of your saved codes in Recovery code and select Use recovery code. This removes your authenticator and signs you out everywhere. Select Sign in again, sign in with your password, and set up the app again.
- If you see "That code was not accepted," type the code your app shows now. If it keeps happening, check that the time on your phone is set automatically.
- If you see "Too many attempts," wait a minute, then type the code your app shows at that point.
- If the setup page shows an error instead of a code, select Try again.
- If you have no phone and no recovery codes, you cannot finish signing in on your own. Contact us. Never share a code from your app with anyone, including us.
- To use a different login, select Sign out and use a different account.
