Why is my domain change not showing yet?

DNS changes spread as saved copies around the internet expire. This is called propagation. It often takes minutes to hours and sometimes up to a day or two.

When your domain settings change, the whole internet does not learn about it at once. Servers around the world keep saved copies of your domain's settings so they do not have to look them up every time. Each saved copy has a timer called the TTL (time to live). Until that timer runs out, a server keeps using the old copy. The wait while those copies expire is called propagation.

How long it takes

It depends on the timer that was set on the old record. A record with a one-hour timer usually updates within about an hour. A record with a 24-hour timer can take up to a day. Google's own guidance ties the wait to the record's TTL. You may see older advice that says "up to 72 hours." The real wait depends on the timers set on your records.

Why you and a friend may see different things

Your internet provider, your phone carrier and your friend's provider each keep their own copies. One may have refreshed while another has not. So for a while, some people see the new site or email setup and some see the old one. That is normal during propagation.

What you can check

  1. Wait an hour, then try again. Most changes show up within that time.
  2. Try your phone with Wi-Fi off. Mobile data uses a different provider and may already be updated.
  3. Clear your browser cache or use a private window.
  4. Restart your device. Computers keep their own short-term copies too.

What changes this affects

  • Pointing your domain to a new website
  • Moving your email to a new provider
  • Adding a verification record for a service like Google or Microsoft
  • Setting up a subdomain, like shop. or book.

We can do this for you. Domain and DNS changes are handled by our team. Open a request in your client portal and tell us what you need changed.

Common problems

  • If the change is still missing after a full day, open a request. The record may have a typo, or it may have been added at the wrong provider.
  • If email stops arriving during a move, tell us right away. Email changes need careful timing.
  • If a verification service says it cannot find your record, wait an hour and press verify again before trying anything else.
