What is a transaction in Google Analytics?
A transaction is a completed purchase recorded in Google Analytics, along with its revenue, items and quantity.
When an online store sends a purchase event to GA4, it is counted as a transaction. Each one carries details such as a transaction ID, the total value, tax, shipping and the items bought with their prices and quantities. GA4 uses this to report ecommerce purchases, purchase revenue, items sold and average purchase revenue. Total revenue can also include subscriptions and ad revenue where set up.
Why it matters for your business: Transaction data ties your marketing directly to sales, so you can see which channels and pages bring in revenue, not only visits.
