What is domain registration?
Domain registration is reserving a domain name in your name for a set period, usually one to ten years, through a registrar.
Domain registration is the process of claiming a domain name for your use. You pick an available name, choose how many years to register it for, and enter owner contact details at a registrar. The registrar records you as the registrant, which is the legal holder of the name. When the term ends you renew it. If you do not, the domain expires, goes through a short grace period, and can then be released for anyone to register.
Why it matters for your business: The person or company listed as registrant controls the domain. Make sure that is your business, with an email address you check, not a former employee or vendor.
