What is a webhook?

A webhook is an automatic message one app sends to another the moment something happens, like a new order or a paid invoice.

A webhook is a way for one service to notify another instantly when an event happens. Instead of your system checking again and again for news, the other service sends a message to a web address you give it. For example, a payment provider can send a webhook when a payment succeeds, and your system then marks the order as paid. If the receiving address is wrong or down, those messages can be missed.

Why it matters for your business: Webhooks keep orders, payments and leads in sync across your tools in real time. When an update seems to go missing between two apps, a failed webhook is a common cause.
