What is hreflang?

Hreflang is a code label that tells search engines which language or country each version of a page is for, so searchers see the right one.

Hreflang is used on websites that have the same page in more than one language or for more than one country, such as an English and a Spanish version. Each version carries a code that points to the others and names its language, like "en" or "es-mx." Search engines use it to show each searcher the version that suits them. Sites in one language for one country do not need it.

Why it matters for your business: If you serve customers in more than one language, hreflang helps each group land on the page written for them.
