What is unassigned traffic in Google Analytics?

Unassigned traffic is visits GA4 could not place into any channel, usually because a link used unusual or missing UTM values.

GA4 sorts each visit into a channel using rules. When a visit has source or medium values that do not match any rule, it is labeled Unassigned. A common cause is a campaign link tagged with an unexpected medium, like utm_medium=newsletter2. Problems with tag setup or consent settings can also cause it. Using standard medium names, such as email, cpc or social, fixes most cases.

Why it matters for your business: A large Unassigned share means some of your marketing is not getting credit. Cleaning up link tags makes your channel reports trustworthy.
