What is a PNG file?

A PNG is an image format that keeps sharp edges and supports transparent backgrounds, making it popular for logos and graphics.

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. It is a raster format that saves images without losing quality, and it can have a transparent background, so a logo can sit on any color without a white box around it. PNG works best for logos, screenshots, icons and graphics with text. For photos, PNG files are often much larger than a JPG or WebP that looks the same, which slows pages down.

Why it matters for your business: Use a transparent PNG when you need your logo on top of colors or photos, and a smaller format like WebP or JPG for photos.
