What is an engaged session?

An engaged session is a visit that lasted more than 10 seconds, included a key event, or viewed at least two pages.

GA4 counts a session as engaged if the visitor did at least one of these: stayed longer than 10 seconds (a time you can adjust), triggered a key event, or viewed two or more pages or screens. Engaged sessions separate real visits from quick exits. The term engagement in GA4 refers to this kind of meaningful activity.

Why it matters for your business: Engaged sessions tell you how many visits were real interest, which is more useful than counting every click that landed on your site.
