What is engagement rate?
Engagement rate is the percentage of sessions on your site that were engaged. It is GA4's main measure of visit quality.
Engagement rate equals engaged sessions divided by all sessions. If 600 of 1,000 sessions were engaged, the engagement rate is 60 percent. It replaced bounce rate as the main quality metric in GA4. It is the opposite of bounce rate: together, the two always add up to 100 percent.
Why it matters for your business: Comparing engagement rate by page or traffic source shows which pages hold attention and which marketing brings interested visitors.
