What is domain privacy?

Domain privacy hides your personal contact details from the public domain lookup, replacing them with the registrar's or a privacy service's details.

Domain privacy, also called WHOIS privacy or privacy protection, keeps your name, address, phone and email out of the public domain lookup. The registrar or a privacy service shows its own contact details instead and forwards real messages to you. Many registrars include it at no cost, and privacy laws already hide a lot of personal data. A few domain extensions limit or do not allow privacy services. You are still the owner when privacy is on.

Why it matters for your business: Privacy cuts down on spam and fake "domain renewal" letters that target addresses found in public lookups. Make sure the hidden email on file still reaches you, because renewal and transfer notices go there.
