What is scroll depth?

Scroll depth is how far down a page visitors scroll. GA4 records a scroll event when someone reaches about 90 percent of a page.

Scroll depth measures how much of a page people actually see. With enhanced measurement on, GA4 records a scroll event the first time a visitor reaches about 90 percent of the page's height. Measuring other points, like 25 or 50 percent, takes extra setup, usually in Google Tag Manager. Heatmap tools also show scroll depth visually.

Why it matters for your business: If few visitors reach the bottom of a long page, put your most important message and call to action higher up.
