What are Google search operators?

Search operators are special commands you add to a Google search, like site:, to narrow results. They are handy for checking your own site.

Search operators are symbols or words that change how Google searches. For example, site:yourdomain.com shows pages Google has from your website, and putting a phrase in quotation marks looks for that exact wording. Using the minus sign before a word leaves it out of the results. These are sometimes called advanced search operators. Results from site: are a rough sample, not an exact page count.

Why it matters for your business: A quick site: search is a simple way to see whether your pages are in Google at all, or to find old pages that still appear.
