What is indexing?
Indexing is when a search engine stores and organizes a page it has crawled so the page can be shown in search results.
After a search engine crawls a page, it tries to understand it: the text, images, title and what the page is about. If the page is useful and allowed, it is added to the search engine's index, a giant library of web pages. Only indexed pages can appear in results. Search engines do not index every page they find. Duplicate, very thin or blocked pages are often left out.
Why it matters for your business: A page that is not indexed gets no search traffic at all. Checking that your important pages are indexed is one of the first steps when a page is not showing up.
