What does 429 mean?
A 429 Too Many Requests error means a server is limiting how often it will answer, because too many requests came too quickly.
429 Too Many Requests means the server has a limit on how many requests one visitor, app or tool can make in a short time, and that limit was passed. This is called rate limiting. It protects sites from overload and abuse. You may see it after refreshing many times, running a site scanner, or when an app connected to another service sends too much at once. The response may say how long to wait.
Why it matters for your business: If tools connected to your site, such as feeds or integrations, hit 429 errors, data can stop syncing. Search engines also slow their visits when they see 429s.
What to do if you see it
- Wait a few minutes before trying again, and avoid repeated refreshing.
- If an app or integration shows this error, pause it and try again later.
- If the problem is on your own website, open a request in your client portal with the page address and a screenshot, and our team will look into it.
