What does (not provided) mean in Google Analytics?

(not provided) means the search words a visitor used were hidden for privacy. Google Search Console shows search terms instead.

Years ago, analytics tools could see which words people searched before clicking to a site. Google and other search engines stopped passing those words along for privacy, so the keyword shows as (not provided) or is missing. To see the searches that bring visitors from Google, use Google Search Console. You can link Search Console to GA4 to see that data inside Analytics.

Why it matters for your business: Search terms are still available, only in a different place. Search Console is where to look for the words people use to find you.
