What is a domain name?

A domain name is the address people type to reach your website, like yourbusiness.com. You rent it yearly from a registrar.

A domain name is the web address people type to reach your site, such as yourbusiness.com. It is easier to remember than the number-based address computers use. You do not buy a domain forever. You register it for one or more years through a registrar and renew it before it expires. The same domain can power your website, your email addresses (like you@yourbusiness.com) and other services, all through its DNS settings.

Why it matters for your business: Your domain is part of your brand and the key to your email. If it lapses, your site and email go dark, and someone else can register it.
