What is a GCLID?
A GCLID is a code Google Ads adds to your web address when someone clicks your ad, so the click can be tied to later actions.
GCLID stands for Google Click Identifier. When auto-tagging is on in Google Ads, Google adds a long code like ?gclid=... to the end of the page address after an ad click. Analytics and conversion tracking read that code to link the visit to the exact campaign, ad and keyword. You will see it in your browser's address bar after clicking an ad. Removing it breaks that tracking.
Why it matters for your business: The GCLID is how Google Ads knows which ad brought a sale or lead, which is what makes your ad reports trustworthy.
