What is a GIF?
A GIF is an older image format best known for short, looping animations, limited to 256 colors per frame.
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is one of the oldest image formats on the web and is mostly used today for short animated loops. Each frame can use only 256 colors, so photos in GIF form often look grainy. Animated GIFs can also be very large files. Video files or animated WebP usually look better at a fraction of the size, so modern sites use GIFs less.
Why it matters for your business: A large animated GIF can slow a page down. Ask whether a short video or a lighter format would do the same job.
