What is image compression?
Image compression shrinks an image file so it loads faster, either by removing unnoticed detail or by storing data more efficiently.
Compression makes an image file smaller. Lossy compression, used by JPG and often WebP, removes detail that most people will not notice, which can cut file size a lot. Lossless compression, used by PNG, packs the data more tightly without losing anything. Too much lossy compression causes blurry patches or blocky edges. Good web images balance a small file with a clean look.
Why it matters for your business: Compressed images help pages load faster, especially on phones, which keeps visitors from leaving.
