What is a heatmap?

A heatmap is a color map of a web page that shows where visitors click, move or stop scrolling.

A website heatmap uses warm colors for areas with lots of activity and cool colors for areas people ignore. Click maps show what people tap. Scroll maps show how far down the page most visitors get. Heatmap tools add a small script to your site and collect data over many visits. The term is also used for local rank heatmaps, which show search rankings across a map.

Why it matters for your business: Heatmaps show if people miss your call to action or stop reading before key details, so you can fix the page with real evidence.
