What is a KPI?

A KPI (key performance indicator) is a number you track to see whether you are reaching an important goal, such as leads per month.

A key performance indicator is one of the few measurements that best show progress toward your goals. For a website, common KPIs include leads or key events, conversion rate, revenue from online orders, calls from your Google Business Profile, and organic traffic. Good KPIs are tied to a business result, measured the same way every time, and reviewed on a schedule.

Why it matters for your business: Agreeing on a short list of KPIs keeps everyone focused on results that matter instead of getting lost in dozens of numbers.
