What is a metric in Google Analytics?
A metric is a number in your analytics, such as users, sessions, views or key events. It is the \"how many\" in a report.
Metrics are the counts and averages in your reports. Users, sessions, views, engagement rate, key events and revenue are all metrics. Each metric is shown for the dimension in each row, for example sessions per traffic source. A metric on its own, like "5,000 users," is less useful than comparing it over time or across sources.
Why it matters for your business: Picking a few metrics that match your goals, like leads and engaged sessions, keeps reports focused on what matters for your business.
