What is a search ranking?
Your search ranking is where your page appears in the results for a given search. Position one is the first organic result.
A ranking is the spot your web page holds in the search results for a particular search. Rankings are not fixed. They shift from day to day and can differ by device, location and the person searching. A page can rank well for one search and not appear at all for another. Search engines decide rankings using many signals, including how well the page answers the search, its quality, and how other sites link to it.
Why it matters for your business: Pages near the top of the first page get most of the clicks. Tracking your rankings for the searches your customers use shows whether your SEO work is paying off.
