What is average position?
Average position is Search Console's measure of where your site typically appears in Google results. Position 1 is the top.
Average position in Google Search Console shows where your link usually appeared in results over the period you choose. Lower is better: 1 is the top spot, while 11 or more generally means the second page or below. It is an average across many searches, places and devices, so it can move when you start showing up for new, lower-ranking searches, even if nothing got worse.
Why it matters for your business: Use average position to spot trends and pages close to page one. Do not panic over small swings, and read it together with clicks and impressions.
