What is an email service provider?

An email service provider is a company or tool that sends email for you, either marketing campaigns or everyday business mail.

The term email service provider, or ESP, is used two ways. For marketing, it means a platform that sends bulk email, manages lists, handles unsubscribes and reports results. For everyday mail, it can mean the company that hosts your mailboxes, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Each service that sends email as your domain must be covered by your SPF and DKIM records.

Why it matters for your business: Knowing every service that sends email as your domain helps keep your authentication records correct, which protects delivery.
