What is an exploration in Google Analytics?
An exploration is a custom, in-depth analysis in GA4 where you can build your own tables, funnels and paths beyond the standard reports.
Explorations are found in the Explore section of GA4. They let you drag in the dimensions and metrics you want, apply segments and filters, and choose a technique such as free form tables, funnel exploration, path exploration, cohort exploration or user explorer. Explorations are private to you unless you share them. Data in them is limited by your property's data retention setting.
Why it matters for your business: Explorations answer specific questions the standard reports cannot, such as which pages people visit right before contacting you.
