What is the Google tag?

The Google tag is a small piece of code on your website that sends visit data to Google Analytics and other Google tools like Google Ads.

The Google tag, also known as gtag.js and once called the global site tag, is a snippet of code added to every page of a website. It loads Google's measurement code and sends events, such as page views and clicks, to Google Analytics, Google Ads and other Google products. It can be added directly to your site or through Google Tag Manager. Each tag has an ID, such as a G- measurement ID.

Why it matters for your business: Without the tag on every page, analytics misses visits. When pages are added or a site is rebuilt, the tag needs to carry over.
