What is an event in Google Analytics?
In GA4, an event is any single action recorded on your site, such as a page view, a click, a scroll or a form submission.
Everything GA4 measures is an event. Loading a page records a page_view event, scrolling records a scroll event, and buying records a purchase event. Some events are collected automatically, some come from enhanced measurement, and others are set up for your business, such as a quote request. Events can carry extra details, called parameters, like the page or the value. In older Universal Analytics, these were called hits.
Why it matters for your business: Events are the building blocks of your reports. Measuring the right events is what lets analytics tell you which pages and channels bring leads.
