What is trim in printing?

Trim is the final cut size of a printed piece, marked by a trim line where the paper will be cut.

The trim size is the finished size of a print piece after cutting, such as a standard business card or a letter-size flyer. The trim line, or crop mark, shows where the cut will happen. Designers keep important text and logos a safe distance inside the trim line, in what is called the safe area, because cuts can drift slightly. Anything past the trim line should be bleed only.

Why it matters for your business: Keeping text inside the safe area makes sure your phone number or logo is never cut off on printed materials.
