What is CMYK?

CMYK is the color system printers use, mixing cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink to reproduce colors on paper.

CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and key, which means black. Most printing builds colors by laying tiny dots of these four inks over each other. Ink on paper cannot reach every bright color a screen can show, so some colors shift when they go from screen to print. Designers convert print files to CMYK and check the result before sending them, so there are no surprises when the job comes back.

Why it matters for your business: Sending print-ready CMYK files helps your business cards, flyers and signs match your brand colors as closely as possible.
