What is views per session?

Views per session is the average number of pages viewed in each visit to your site. It was called pages per session in older reports.

Views per session divides total views by total sessions. A number of 2.5 means visitors looked at two or three pages per visit, on average. Older Universal Analytics called this pages per session. Higher is not always better: a short visit where someone finds your number and calls is a success. Compare it across pages and sources rather than chasing a target number.

Why it matters for your business: This number helps show whether visitors explore your site or leave after one page, which can guide where to add helpful links.
