What is a data stream?

A data stream is the source of data flowing into a Google Analytics property, such as your website or your iPhone or Android app.

In GA4, a data stream is a connection that sends data from one place into your property. There are three kinds: web (for a website), iOS app and Android app. Each web stream has its own measurement ID and its own settings, such as enhanced measurement and the list of unwanted referrals. A typical small business has one web data stream for its website.

Why it matters for your business: If reports look empty, a missing or misconfigured data stream is a common cause. It is the first place to check that your site is connected.
