What is a domain transfer?

A domain transfer moves your domain's registration from one registrar to another. Your website and email keep working if DNS is handled carefully.

A domain transfer moves the registration of your domain from one registrar to another. You unlock the domain at the old registrar, get its EPP code, and start the transfer at the new one, which usually adds a year to your term. The old registrar may confirm by email, and the process can take several days. A transfer changes who bills you for the name. It does not by itself change your website or email, unless the nameservers change at the same time.

Why it matters for your business: Moving the domain and moving DNS are two separate jobs. Mixing them up is the most common way a transfer knocks a business offline, so our team handles transfers through a request.
