What is a forwarding address?

A forwarding address automatically passes copies of incoming email from one address to another address.

Email forwarding sends incoming messages on to a different address, often at another provider. For example, mail sent to your business address can be forwarded to a personal inbox. Unlike an alias, forwarding sends a copy across, which means it can fail SPF checks or be flagged as spam on the way. Some forwarding is set up in your mailbox settings and some at your domain provider.

Why it matters for your business: Forwarding helps you avoid missing messages, but replies may come from the wrong address, so a proper mailbox or alias is usually better for customer email.
