What is a long-tail keyword?
A long-tail keyword is a longer, more specific search phrase. Fewer people search it, but those who do usually know what they want.
Long-tail keywords are longer and more detailed searches, like "gluten free birthday cake delivery in Austin" instead of "cake." Each one gets fewer searches than a short, broad term. But there are many of them, they are usually easier to rank for, and the people using them are often close to buying. Together, long-tail searches can bring a large share of a site's visits.
Why it matters for your business: A small business rarely wins the broad, crowded searches. Targeting specific long-tail phrases is often the fastest way to bring in visitors who are ready to act.
