What is keyword difficulty?
Keyword difficulty is a score from SEO tools that estimates how hard it would be to rank on the first page for a keyword.
Keyword difficulty is a number, often from 0 to 100, that SEO tools give a keyword. It estimates how much competition there is to reach the first page, mostly based on how strong the sites already ranking there are. Each tool calculates it its own way, so scores do not match between tools. It is an estimate made by the tool, not a number from Google.
Why it matters for your business: Difficulty helps set realistic goals. A newer or smaller site usually does better by targeting lower-difficulty searches first and building up from there.
