What is a mockup?

A mockup is a realistic, full-color picture of how a design will look, such as a web page or a logo on a sign.

A mockup shows the final look of a design with real colors, fonts and images, but it is usually a static picture you cannot click. In web design, it comes after the wireframe and before the build. In branding, a mockup might show your new logo on a storefront, a shirt or a business card so you can picture it in real life. Mockups are where you judge the visual style.

Why it matters for your business: Mockups let you approve the look before money is spent building or printing, so give feedback at this stage.
