What is a sans-serif font?

A sans-serif font has clean letters without the small end strokes called serifs, giving a modern, simple look.

"Sans" means "without," so a sans-serif font has no serifs at the ends of its letters. Examples include Arial, Helvetica and many fonts used in apps. Sans-serif fonts tend to feel modern, clean and approachable. They are very common on websites and phones because they stay clear at small sizes. Many brands pair a sans-serif body font with a more distinctive heading font.

Why it matters for your business: A clear sans-serif font keeps your website readable on small phone screens.
