What is a title tag?

A title tag is the page title set in a page's code. It often appears as the blue clickable headline in search results and in the browser tab.

Every web page has a title tag, a short line of text in the hidden head section of the page. Search engines often use it as the clickable headline in results, and browsers show it on the tab. A good title tag is unique to each page, describes what the page offers and usually includes the business or brand name. Google may sometimes rewrite the headline it shows using other text from the page.

Why it matters for your business: The title is often the first thing a searcher reads about you. A clear, specific title helps you rank and makes people more likely to click.
