What is a tracking pixel?

A tracking pixel is a small piece of code on your website that tells an ad or analytics platform when someone visits or acts.

A tracking pixel, also called a tag or tracking code, is a short snippet added to your site. When a page loads or a visitor takes an action, it sends a signal to a platform such as Meta or Google. The Meta Pixel and the Google tag are common examples. Platforms use the data for conversion reports, remarketing lists and ad optimization.

Why it matters for your business: Pixels make ad reporting and retargeting possible. Your cookie notice and privacy policy should explain them to visitors.
