What is an AAAA record?

An AAAA record points a domain to a server's IPv6 address. It does the same job as an A record for the newer, longer address format.

An AAAA record (often said "quad A") works like an A record, but it points to an IPv6 address instead of an IPv4 address. IPv6 addresses are longer and use letters and numbers separated by colons. Many hosts give you both an A record and an AAAA record so that visitors on either kind of network can reach the site. If a host does not use IPv6, you may not need an AAAA record at all.

Why it matters for your business: An old AAAA record left behind after a move can send some visitors to your previous host. When your site moves, check that both the A and AAAA records match the new host.
