What is an apex domain?
The apex domain is your bare domain with nothing in front, like yourbusiness.com. It is also called the root or naked domain.
The apex domain is your domain name on its own, with no subdomain in front: yourbusiness.com rather than www.yourbusiness.com or shop.yourbusiness.com. It is also called the root domain or naked domain. The apex usually holds your main website A record, your email MX records and many TXT records. Because of DNS rules, the apex normally cannot use a CNAME record, so some DNS hosts offer a special alias record for it instead.
Why it matters for your business: Most visitors type the bare domain. Both the apex and the www version should load your site, with one redirecting to the other.
