What is balance in design?
Balance is how visual weight is spread across a layout so it feels stable, using symmetrical, asymmetrical or radial arrangements.
Every element on a page has visual weight. Big, dark or colorful things feel heavier. Balance is how that weight is distributed. A symmetrical layout mirrors both sides and feels formal and calm. An asymmetrical layout uses different items that still feel even, like one large photo balanced by several smaller text blocks, and feels more dynamic. Radial balance arranges items around a center point, as in some circular logos.
Why it matters for your business: A balanced layout feels intentional and trustworthy, while a lopsided one can feel unfinished.
