What is bandwidth?

Bandwidth is how much data can move over a connection in a given time. Hosts also use it to mean how much data your site may send each month.

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can travel over a connection at once, like the width of a pipe. For internet connections it is measured in megabits or gigabits per second. Web hosts often use the word for something related: data transfer, the total amount of data your website sends to visitors each month. Large images, videos and downloads use more of it. Some hosting plans limit it or charge more when you go over.

Why it matters for your business: Heavy, unoptimized images use up data transfer and slow pages. Compressing them helps both your hosting plan and your visitors.
