What is color contrast?
Color contrast is how different text and background colors are in lightness; enough contrast keeps text readable for everyone.
Color contrast compares the lightness of text with the lightness of the background behind it, expressed as a ratio. WCAG level AA asks for a ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for normal text and 3 to 1 for large text. Light gray text on white, or white text on a pale photo, often fails. Free online contrast checkers let you test any pair of colors by entering their hex codes.
Why it matters for your business: Good contrast helps people with low vision, older customers and anyone reading a phone outdoors in bright light.
