What is cropping?

Cropping trims the edges of an image to remove distractions, change its shape or focus attention on the subject.

To crop an image is to cut away part of its outer edges. Designers crop to remove clutter, to tighten the frame around a subject or to fit a required shape, like a square profile photo or a wide website banner. Cropping removes pixels, so a heavily cropped photo has less detail left and may look soft when shown large. Websites also crop images automatically to fit different screens.

Why it matters for your business: Leave some space around the subject when you take photos, so they can be cropped for different spots without losing what matters.
