What is aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio is the shape of an image or video, written as width to height, like 16:9 for wide or 1:1 for square.
Aspect ratio describes the proportion between an image's width and height. A 1:1 image is square, 16:9 is the wide shape of most TV screens and videos, and 4:5 or 9:16 are taller shapes common on phones and social media. Two images can have the same aspect ratio but different sizes. When a space on a website or social post expects a certain ratio, images of other shapes get cropped.
Why it matters for your business: Shooting or supplying photos in the right shape keeps important details, like faces or your product, from being cut off.
