What is double opt-in?

Double opt-in means a new subscriber must confirm their sign-up by clicking a link in an email before they are added to your list.

With double opt-in, a person fills out your sign-up form and then gets a confirmation email. They are added to your list only after they click the link in that email. This proves the address is real and that its owner wants your messages. Single opt-in, by contrast, adds people as soon as they submit the form.

Why it matters for your business: Double opt-in keeps typos, fake addresses and spam traps off your list, which protects your delivery, though it can mean slightly fewer sign-ups.
