What is opt-in?

Opt-in means a person has actively agreed to receive your emails or texts, for example by checking a box or signing up.

Opt-in is permission. A person opts in when they choose to join your list, such as by entering their email on a sign-up form or checking an unchecked box at checkout. The opposite is opt-out, where people are added unless they say no. For text messages, US rules require clear consent before you send marketing texts.

Why it matters for your business: Mailing only people who opted in keeps you on the right side of email and text rules and gets far better results than cold lists.
